cinepuri!! xD
Today, I went to watch the live action Tenipuri movie :0! It was entertaining and I enjoyed it ^_^ I wrote a nice long report for it, go read xD!
*please excuse my poop-ish memory and horrible grammar...* ;__;
The movie starts and we see a plane just about to land. The names of the director/producer/writer/etc. appear. After this we see the inside of Narita airport…there are a few foreigners and behind one of them comes, none other than, Ryoma! He walks past the camera and we move to a scene in a train.
Sasabe (who is played by Shinoda Mitsuyoshi who is Yanagizawa aka “ducky” from Tenimyu xD; ) is swinging around his racket and demonstrating his tennis skills to his friends, who include Kamakari Kenta and Nagayan! We see a girl (an original character) getting distressed. She mouths for them to stop, but, apparently she’s mute and Sasabe and his gang start to make fun of her. Ryoma comes to the rescue and tells Sasabe that he’s got his tennis terminology all wrong. Sasabe & gang go over and threaten Ryoma, and Sasabe tells him to get off at the next stop. The scene switches to a tennis court, where Sasabe is getting his ass whopped by Ryoma. Ryoma then knocks over a tennis ball basket and it stats raining balls~! Then Ryoma says his catchphrase, “mada mada dane”. :D
Next, we see Seishun Gakuen. Ryoma walks right through to the tennis court, right past a guy with an uncanny resemblance to Horio (maybe he’ll be the next Tenimyu Horio...who knows ^_^;) The first Seigaku regular we see is Kaidoh, who asks Ryoma if he’s the new student from America. I forget why, but they start to play a match. Outside the fence Momoshiro is watching them and says “Oh, a cute one’s come!” xD; . The rest of the Seigaku regulars go to where Momo is outside the fence, Inui drinking his Inui Juice xD;;. Ryoma is losing at first because of Kaidoh’s snake shot, but he soon learns how to use it too and Kaidoh starts losing the game. We then see the back of a figure (Tezuka) walk into the courts. Tezuka stops the match and tells Ryoma he needs to submit his application to the club. Ryoma just shrugs and says “sure” then leaves.
The next scene is in the grounds of a temple, and Nanjirou is lounging around eating crackers and reading Playboy xD;; Ryoma comes into the grounds and Nanjirou suggests that they should play a match for “old-times sake” (I guess Ryoma had been in the States for a while…).
After this we have a Ryoma-in-the-bath scene. Ryoma quickly dunks his head underwater and when he comes up Nanjirou is on the other end of the tub xD; Nanjirou starts to tease Ryoma and talks about him still being a kid if he’s embarrassed by his dad xD; and then starts to spread his legs out (!!!).
(Sorry but my memory might get a little fuzzy from here…the order might be a bit messed up ^_^;; )
Now we’re at Seigaku, where the ranking matches are starting. Ryoma’s first opponent is Momoshiro. Ryoma and Momo have a small conversation at the net (I don’t remember what they were talking about) but it ends when Momo walks to his side of the court and says to Ryoma “You’re cute” xD;;. We see shots of Ryoma and Momo hitting balls to each other and then suddenly we move onto the match with Inui. The entire ranking-matches scene only lasts about 3~4 minutes in total ^_^;;
After this, we see Ryoma at home trying out his new Seigaku regular’s jersey. He does a couple of poses infront of a mirror xD; (such pointing the racket at his mirror with a cool face) and turns around to see Nanjirou laughing at him and imitating him. xD
Next is the tournament where Seigaku plays against Fudomine. Seigaku strides in with Tezuka at the head, and passes a couple of familiar faces (namely Saitou Takumi and Washimi Ryou :D) We then switch scenes to see a limo pulling up to the sidewalk and fangirls basically attack the limo xD; Out of the limo steps our new Atobe and the Hyoutei regulars. Atobe moves up out of the screaming fangirls and snaps his finger. It goes dead silent…and about two seconds later the fangirling starts again. Atobe starts walking, with the other regulars forming a line of protection (from the fangirls) behind him. He walks up to Seigaku and asks Tezuka how Seigkau is doing. After some talking Atobe walks away with the Hyoutei regulars and his fangirls trailing him.
At some point Ryoma is lounging under a tree, when the girl on the train comes up to him (she was at the tournament grounds and noticed him) and writes him a note that says “Thank you” He asks her who she is and she writes another note that says “Higaki Shion”. She then bows and leaves.
Now we see the match between Shinji and Ryoma. Fudomine is watching outside the fence. In Fudomine, the most noticeable faces were Kamio and Sakurai (I don’t remember seeing the rest of the team), who were both played by the same people as they were in Tenimyu. We see Ryoma hit the Twist Serve and the ball shoots into a fence. The people behind the fence (who include Aoyagi Ruito) are stunned, as is everyone else. Also as it turns out, the referee for the game is Ishibashi Yusuke xD; Early in the match Ryoma cuts his eye, but Tezuka tells him he can play if he finishes the match in under 10 minutes. And well, he does.
After this, the Seigaku regulars go to celebrate in Kawamura Sushi. They all eat and stuff the sushi into their mouths xD; Tezuka (who is fanning himself with a fold-out fan like an old man) is asked by Taka-san’s father if he wants some sake. Tezuka promptly replies with “I am the captain, Tezuka Kunimitsu” and the regulars burst into laugter. Outside Kawamura Sushi, we see Ryoma wondering if he should go in or not, and in the end he doesn’t. Inside, Momo complains that Ryoma is late and someone should find him. Suddenly the door to opens and everyone yells “YOU’RE LATE ECHIZEN!!”, but it turns out to be a drunk man with a tie wrapped around his head xD;;. My friend later told me that man was actually the director o_o;;!
At some point we get a shot of Hyoutei Gakuen, and well…it's BIG. It looks kind of like an airport, its very modern-looking and is made of glass/steel. Inside, the regulars are hard at work. Sakaki is looking down at them from inside a room with a glass window while Atobe plays this virtual tennis-like game o_o; After finishing the virtual game, Atobe asks about Egate Maclaude Higaki(sp!?) who is the other original character. Sakaki says he shouldn’t be worried.
Then suddenly we switch to a forest in the nighttime where Egate is holding a long metal pole and is hitting tennis balls (in a matrix-style), fired by canons, at a tree; there is a shot of the night sky and you hear the tree falling down -_-;;
Then, we see Tezuka at the doctor’s office. The doctor tells him that he only has a problem with his arm when he hits the “Zero-shiki drop shot” so he must not hit it.
We move on to inside the Seigaku locker rooms, where Tezuka is sitting down staring at a tennis ball. Ryoma comes in and starts to take off his shirt to change. Tezuka gets up and stares at him for a full 3 seconds before Ryoma puts his Regulars shirt on xD; He then tells Ryoma to have a match with him the next week.
Then we go to the next week where Ryoma and Tezuka have a match. At some point in the game Tezuka uses his Zero Shiki drop shot, and Ryoma falls down when trying to get it. Tezuka tells Ryoma to become the Pillar of Seigaku and turns away from Ryoma, but Ryoma sees that Tezuka is holding his hurt arm.
At some point after the Tez vs. Ryoma match there is a shot of the regulars training and talking about how Ryoma hasn’t been at the practices for a while. They wonder if it could be a cold and then Tezuka yells to the entire club “IT’S MOST LIKELY A COLD!!” and everyone goes silent xD;; They then start to wonder if something went on between Tezuka and Ryoma…
Also at some point Tezuka is talking to young, pretty and stylish Coach Ryuzaki about Ryoma. Ryuzaki tells Tezuka about Ryoma and Nanjirou, and how Nanjirou was the sempai (senior person) she looked up to…In the manga/anime Nanjirou was her student -_-;;
Also at some random point (my memory sucks..) Ryoma is on the phone with his mom. Here...Ryoma speaks English. But it was possibly the most EngRish it could get. I swear I had to read the Japanese subtitles because I couldn’t understand what he was trying to say o_o;; *In this scene Nanjirou is seen playing around with a little white cat (people that saw the Navitage dvd should recognize it..) but it's never mentioned as Karupin...
The next scene is at the Seigaku tennis courts where Tezuka is announcing the new regulars and where they also find out their opponent in the Kantou tournament is Hyoutei. Instead of Momo, Ryoma is announced as a regular. Ryoma though, doesn’t take the regular’s jacket that they were handing out because he’s returning to America during the Kantou tournament. *shock!* Momo then gets pissed at him for disrespecting the Seigaku jersey. Suddenly, we hear some laughing and Egate Maclaude appears on the court! (apparently he was a former Seigaku member..) He lights a mini-rocket-on-a-stick and fires it at Seigaku xD; Kaidoh gets pissed and tries to hit him, but misses. Egate just laughs, and suddenly it starts to rain >_>; He then takes a tennis ball and hits it with the side of his racket (his special move) in Tezuka’s direction. Tezuka blocks it with his tennis racket, but the ball goes crazy and moves around on his racket and in the end breaks right through it >_> Egate introduces himself to Ryoma (it turns out he’s a second year…that means he’s in 7th grade wtf…)then challenges him. After that Ryoma basically vows to defeat Egate.
We now start the match against Hyoutei! Before the Seigaku regulars enter the court, they see a plane flying overhead (to symbolize Ryoma going to the US that day). We can also see that Shion is sitting in the stands. The first match is between Kikumaru/Oishi and Oshitari/Gakuto. The match is very short, but the main event is when Kikumaru and Gakuto spin into the air and play tennis in the air xD;; Yay computer graphics! Another thing was they did do the Australian formation, but this time Oishi was in the front o_o;; In the end, Oishi and Kikumaru lose (unlike the manga/anime).
The next match is Otori/Shishido vs. Inui/Kaidoh. Nothing too special here…they do the Scud serve and Kaidoh runs around a lot. In the end Otori and Shishido lose (also unlike the manga/anime).
Singles 3 is Taka-san vs. Kabaji. Basically it’s just an exchange of tennis fire-balls (it looks like the ball’s on fire) between Kabaji and Taka-san. In the end the match is not counted because their hands hurt and they can’t play anymore.
Before Fuji’s match, Echizen appears! Everyone is happy and rejoices yay!
Singles 2 is Fuji vs. Jirou. To sum it up it goes like this:
*Fuji does disappearing serve*
Jirou: SUGEEEE! (OMGWOW!!)
*Fuji does disappearing serve again*
Jirou: WAH SUGEEEEEEEEE!!!
*Fuji does Hakugei (complete with orchestral music and whales SINGING in the background o_o)*
Jirou: SUGEEEE!!
The end. Fuji wins 6-0.
Before Tezuka’s match Ryoma sits down on the bench where the bench coach is supposed to be so “he can get a better view”. Kaidoh and Momo protest and start to grab Ryoma, but Tezuka says it’s ok and asks Ryoma to hold his jersey for him…
Atobe’s entrance is different from the musical/anime/manga. For this one, he doesn’t throw up his jacket, but he points to different parts of the stands, and wherever he points to groups of fangirls jump up and scream xD;
The Atobe vs. Tez match is just…normal. If you’ve watched the musical or seen the anime/manga then it’s nothing new. In the end, Atobe wins and there has to be another match, this one between Egate and Echizen.
Well…this was an…interesting match xD;; The match starts out normally, the two hitting the ball back and forth. But suddenly Egate reaches up his hands and laughs. Suddenly evil dark rain clouds appear out of nowhere and cover the sky so it’s totally dark. And then…there is a solar eclipse! xD;; (think apocalyptic). They then turn on the lights in the court and the match continues. Suddenly Egate unleashes his hit-with-the-side-of-the-racket tennis that makes the tennis balls emit red, blood-like auras, and keeps aiming for Ryoma’s leg. Ryoma’s getting very beat up and can hardly stand. We look into Egate’s eyes and see he’s looking at the court with glow in the dark vision (everything looks like it’s under a blacklight…xD)
At some point in the match we flashback to a scene outside a hospital where Egate is talking to Shion (it turns out they are siblings and their father died(or maybe it was the mother; I forget)). We also now know that Egate really cares for his sister and always tells her not to worry :D awww.
Shion, who is in the stands, looks worried and is about to cry, but she can’t say anything.
Also, Ryoma, whose leg is thoroughly beat up, flashes back to training he did, where he was trying to hit balls with a racket that had only two strings on it. There was one vertical, one horizontal, making a cross in the center of his racket. He uses what he learned from that as his racket is slowly being torn apart by Egate’s shots. Suddenly he regains power and is able to hit back Egate’s hit-with-the-side-of-the-racket shots. The skies clear, the solar eclipse disappears, and all is sunny again. Ryoma has this steam-like aura coming out of him. They start to play again and Shion, in the stands, miraculously shouts “Gambare! (go!)”, but her brother doesn’t hear her. In the end, Ryoma hits a shot that bursts right through Egate’s racket, then hits the wall behind Egate and flies up into the air like a rocket. Ryoma wins!! (of course >_>)
The match has ended and people are leaving. Now comes one of the most hilarious parts of the movie. Out of nowhere someone points at the stands and gasps. There, are Rokkaku, RikkaiDai, Higa and Shitenhouji xD; There was a close up of each team and I saw a few familiar faces, but I couldn’t recognize them all because the close-ups were short (Juri was in Rokkaku as Davide, Wada was Kintarou…). And that was the end of the movie xD;; Everyone in the movie theater laughed at that…it was so random XD
Some points about the movie:
Hyoutei: I wasn’t impressed with them. Since all their matches except for Atobe and Higaki were about 2~3 minutes long each there was no time to learn about each character. The only characters that really actually showed character were Atobe and Jirou . All the Hyoutei regulars (minus Atobe) got maximum three lines to say in the entire movie. :(
**oh yes I just remembered :D Out of Hyoutei, Atobe's shirt was the only school-uniform with a silver floral design on it xD;;;
Plot holes: With the amount of plot holes in this movie you’d think that they’d make a sequel for Egate’s story or something.
Plot hole #1 – Egate says he HAS to win every match because of an important reason. The reason is never explained.
Plot hole #2 – Egate says he’s a pro, but that’s never explained either.
Plot hole #3 – Egate comes out of the hospital (in the flashback) but it’s never explained why.
There is no Karupin D; woe
Still, I thought it was a fun movie ^^. I think even non-tenipuri fans can understand this movie and they’ll have fun watching it ^_^
I’ll probably end up watching it 3 more times xD
